As a follow up to Glen Sacks’s piece in The Wall Street Journal, “Charter Schools' Success Is an Illusion,” Nina Rees, president and CEO of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, published a response letter to the editor that headlined The Wall Street Journal letters page. In her reply, Rees speaks to the historical injustices imposed on students of color and students from low-income families that charter schools in part seek to address. She pushes back on Sacks’s declaration that student outcomes have little to do with district schools. After all, if the schools aren’t held accountable for student successes, who is?
