Eight Congressional Black Caucus Members and Charter School Leaders to be Honored at Second Annual Congressional Black Caucus Charter School Leadership Awards and Reception

Join the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools (National Alliance) for a reception honoring Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) members, and African American charter school leaders for their outstanding accomplishments spearheading the movement to provide students and families with high-quality public-school opportunities.

This year, the National Alliance will honor the following eight African American leaders with Charter School Leadership awards for raising the bar of excellence in education and advancing student access to high-quality charter schools.

  • Michael Carter, Co-Founder, Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (MI)
  • Dominique Lee, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, BRICK Charter Schools (NJ)
  • Tysie McDowell-Ray, Co-Founder and Chief Academic Officer, Crossroads Charter Schools (MO)
  • Lagra Newman, Founder and Head of School, Purpose Preparatory Academy Charter School (TN) 
  • Jalen Rose, Trailblazer award recipient, Founder, Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, former NBA basketball player and co-host of Get Up! on ESPN (MI)

This reception will be co-hosted by the National Alliance, Diverse Charter Schools Coalition, Education Reform Now, KIPP Foundation, National Charter Collaborative, The 74, NAACP-DC chapter, Progressive Policy Institute, United Negro College Fund and the Walton Family Foundation. Please join us to recognize and celebrate African American leaders in public education from across the country!
