Letter to the Editor: Charter Schools are the Public School Solution Black and Hispanic Families Want

As a follow up to Will Bacha’s piece in Citizen Truth, “How the School Choice Movement Has its Roots in Racism,” Amy Wilkins, senior vice president of advocacy at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, published a response letter to the editor (scroll to the bottom of the page to read). Wilkins discusses how charter schools are in fact public schools, a key characteristic many often negate. These public schools enable low-income students and students of color to receive a high-quality education irrespective of their zip code.
