Letter to the Editor: Graduation Rates are Just One Ingredient to Student Success

As a follow up to Arianna Prothero and Alex Harwin’s piece in Education Week, “In Many Charter High Schools, Graduation Odds Are Slim,” Dr. Nathan Barrett, senior director of research and evaluation at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, published a response letter to the editor titled, Graduation Rates Aren't the Whole Story.” Dr. Barrett sheds light on the danger of over simplifying graduation rates when it comes to students from varying demographics. He keeps early warning signs in the discussion, as students will exhibit them in grades K-12.
