Thank you Ms. Mitchell for giving me a Future

My name is Adamaris Michel and I graduated from Mission, Achievement and Success Charter School (MAS) in Albuquerque, N.M. in 2018. I was one of 52 graduates in the first graduating class at MAS. I was not as happy to graduate as most of my classmates. The part I liked the least, was leaving my friends, teachers, and principal behind. I would like to personally thank Ms. Pena, Ms. Mitchell and Dr. Knowles for inspiring me the most to be the most independent person I can be, and for steering me towards college. They were all my family since I was in the seventh grade.

One of my favorite memories are the out of town trips we took to visit colleges. I never thought I would be able to see these places! These trips gave me an insight to what my long and short term goals should look like. I will be attending our local community college in Central, New Mexico (CNM) to study Criminal Justice so that I can apply to the Albuquerque Police Department as a police service aid. My long term goal is to attend Texas Tech to study International Business.

My school was special to me since we had students from kindergarten on up, and I was one of the student workers that assisted the little ones in the cafeteria. I loved it so much! I liked talking to them and I would always try to motivate them to do well, succeed and enjoy their days at MAS. I believe my long lasting legacy will be to never give up even if it gets hard along the way.

I’m not sure how my life would have turned out if the teachers, staff and my principal didn’t care so much. They guided me through some difficult times. It truly at times feels like yesterday when I started my seventh grade year at MAS.

My family has made many sacrifices for me and I want them to know how much I appreciate and love them. I am a first-generation high school graduate that overcame many obstacles. English, was not my first language and I have a learning disability. With the help of MAS, I am on my way to become a career professional.

I will always work hard and do my best in school, and in life, so that I can make an impact on other’s lives, as my MAS family has made on mine. I would like to thank Ms. Mitchell, MAS Founder and Principal, for giving me my future.
