Ten years ago, the National Alliance, along with partners like the Colorado League of Charter Schools, who were interested in convening public charter school attorneys across the country, conceived the Alliance of Public Charter School Attorneys (APCSA).
From its inception, APCSA’s mission has always been to support charter school policy priorities through legal advocacy. Now sponsored by the National Alliance, the community of APCSA lawyers, once a relatively small group, has grown to over 400 attorneys nationally.
In addition to its overall mission, APCSA serves as a research and networking hub for education attorneys to obtain and exchange information and seeks to educate and keep members current on the legal issues affecting charter schools, management organizations, and boards, both directly and indirectly. To that end, APCSA membership also provides valuable benefits, including:
* Legal publications
* Bi-annual Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars
* A private listserv to communicate with fellow APCSA members
From our experience, these benefits truly offer a way to examine emerging legal issues affecting the charter school community.
The bi-annual seminars, in particular, provide a forum within which the APCSA community can meet in person to discuss relevant topics, strategize about responses to developing concerns, share best practices, and network with each other. They showcase great speakers and presenters, both for general and breakout sessions. In fact, some of our recent past keynote speakers include John White, Louisiana State Superintendent of Education; Chris Stewart (aka “Citizen Stewart”), noted blogger and Senior Partner and Chief Executive of the Wayfinder Foundation; Clint Bolick, Associate Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court; Shavar Jeffries, National President of Democrats for Education Reform; and Daniel Shoy, Jr., President and CEO of the East Lake Foundation.
And, we’ve hosted the seminars in a variety of cool cities like New Orleans, Philadelphia, Santa Monica, Seattle, Memphis, and Denver—just to name a few! Above and beyond the seminar’s substantive sessions, we also have a little fun in the process!
APCSA consists of dedicated, talented, and brilliant attorneys, all of whom are committed to protecting the growth of the charter school sector. In order to protect the intimate and honest nature of APCSA discussions, particularly at the legal seminars and on the listserv, we encourage folks who are interested in joining the APCSA community to apply for membership.
If you are interested in becoming an APCSA member, please apply today. We both benefit from the expertise and knowledge the APCSA community offers, as well as the relationships we have with the amazing people who belong to the network. We’d love to have you, too!

I want to be sure that I am still a listed member. I am on the list serve, but understand that APCSA may have initiated an annual dues requirement, but I have not received information about that. I want to be sure that I know about the conferences - thanks.
Hi Patricia, thank you for your comment. I'll send your inquiry along to our legal team about updating your membership.
