Last week, we released the 10th annual student enrollment share report, A Growing Movement: America’s Largest Charter School Communities, which identifies communities with the highest enrollment share and largest number of students attending charter public schools.

In some communities, the growth of charter public schools has been striking. For the first time, the enrollment share of public school students who attend charter public schools has reached more than 40 percent in Kansas City, Missouri and Gary, Indiana. Further, the enrollment share in Kansas City has doubled in just ten years. These two cities join New Orleans, LA, Washington, DC, and Detroit and Flint, Michigan as the six cities highest enrollment share cities.
