Ascend Learning, Inc. is the charter management organization partnering with Ascend Public Charter Schools to operate a network of charter schools and ensure the success of its students. Ascend opened its first school – Brooklyn Ascend Lower School – in 2008 with 210 students in kindergarten through second grade. Today, Ascend educates 5,500 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade in 15 charter schools across Brooklyn, New York.
Ascend schools provide students with a rich liberal arts education, in a warm, supportive and carefully developed environment that equips each student with the knowledge, confidence and character to succeed in college, as citizens and as leaders in their chosen fields. Unique to the NYC charter sector, all Ascend schools are in private space with care and attention paid to every aspect of the education environment. This scalable solution to the underachievement of economically disadvantaged children consistently yields academic achievement levels for its students that are equal or superior to their peers in suburban schools from higher socio-economic backgrounds.
The Ascend team of 845 staff work with dedication, passion and urgency to ensure students have the resources and supports necessary to excel academically. This team is also one of the most diverse in the charter sector with more than 70% of staff identifying as a person of color.
