Reading Teacher

Position Summary:
Looking for an experienced Reading Specialist to support our K-6 classrooms for the 2020-21 school year. The Reading Specialist will work with the Elementary Teachers under the supervision of the Principal, to develop and implement strategies and instructional plans that support student reading fluency, comprehension, and achievement.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
• Implement a reading program that will support the delivery and continuous monitoring of effective high impact literacy instruction throughout the school.
• Identify and evaluate appropriate literacy materials/lessons for students and/or teachers
• Plan and conduct periodic program evaluations to assess the need for improvements in reading instruction and/or assessments
• Coordinate English Language Arts in the classrooms by administering formal and informal school wide assessments
• Analyze and interpret individual classroom and school-wide literacy data
• Provide professional development training/workshop for teachers and classroom assistants in literacy development
• Assist teacher with teaching methods, lesson plans and classroom management
• Participate in meeting(s) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information as required with external agencies and/or parents
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal

● Collaborate with staff to determine requirements for the instructional goals, objectives, and methods

● Welcome the use of analytics and data to help drive instruction and promote learning
● Appreciate regular feedback, accountability and the rewards that come with doing a great job serving our students & communities
● Have great classroom management skills

Required Competencies & Qualifications:

• Has the ability to provide services to all children and families with respect and dignity
• Ability to work successfully with students, staff and multicultural community
• Ability to provide guidance to teachers that will enhance their literacy lesson plans
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite and Google Docs
• A sense of humor and a love of children

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, reading, literacy or a related discipline required from accredited college or university required
• Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in reading and/or curriculum and instruction preferred
• Teacher certification or license preferred
• Prior experience teaching reading in a private, traditional or public charter school preferred
• Fluency in Spanish a plus, preferred but not required
• Experience in delivering training and/or workshops
• Prior experience in a Montessori classroom environment preferred but not required
• Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of traditionally under-served students

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
