Operations Manager

LAMB’s Mission: To create a self-directed learning environment in which children build a foundation of knowledge essential for a lifetime of learning while developing bi-literacy in English and Spanish.

LAMB offers a unique model of bilingual Montessori public education to diverse, urban families in the Nation’s Capital. LAMB serves children in PK3 through 5th grade and is a community that embraces our active parent community and promotes peace and equality for all.

Job Summary: LAMB moved into a new building for the 2020-2021 school year, with continuing renovations. It is maintaining three primary classrooms at its South Dakota facility. It will also be sharing the top floor of this facility with Sojourner Truth Montessori secondary school. It will be maintaining this facility thru SY ’22-23, then moving these classrooms into the main building at 5000 14th St. NW.

Reporting to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer, and working closely with the Operations and Leadership teams, the Operations Manager serves the full school, managing the day-to-day operations, ensuring operational safety, compliance, and efficiency.

Administrative Assistants/Front Desk staff
South Dakota Operations (in coordination with SD Building Coordinator/Assistant Principal)
Contracted Facilities Staff (M&G)
Food Service provider (presently Revolution Foods, under contract)

Operational Functions
Responsible for site level procurement of supplies, materials, equipment, and inventory management.
Local manager for transportation, foodservices, facilities maintenance, security and other third party service contracts, ensuring ongoing monitoring and implementation of contracts.
Oversee school maintenance, cleaning, and security on a day-to-day basis to ensure a safe learning and working environment.
Inspect facilities through periodic walkthroughs to identify areas in need of attention and make recommendations to support facility maintenance and improvement.
Ensure instructional materials, furniture, and equipment are properly stored and accessible when needed.
Manage all aspects of free and reduced lunch program/process, including managing the application process.
With IT Director, coordinate operational aspects of technology implementation (planning, procurement, and training)
Prepare reports as may be required/appropriate on site operations.
Assist in responding to and resolving routine internal and external inquires with parents, employees and school organizations.

Financial Administration Functions
Responsible for site level budget monitoring and management, with input into budget development.
Review periodic financial reports and provide updated financial estimates.
Participate as appropriate with grant writers and other staff in grant applications and reporting
Assist as appropriate in year-end as well as any site audits.

Human Resource Management Functions
Manage day-to-day activities of designated non-instructional staff.
Cooperate with Human Resources Manager to implement policies and procedures.
Coordinate with Human Resources Manager orientation for new hires.
Lead annual performance reviews for designated non-instructional staff.

Basic Qualifications
Excellent customer service and organizational skills
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Experience with complex database and reporting systems, particularly for public schools
Collaborative, team-oriented positive attitude
Meet all employment requirements including a thorough background check
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business/Management/Accounting or Finance

Experience working in a school or community service/outreach setting
Demonstrated success in contract management
Experience in managing service level agreements and contracts for outsourced services
Knowledge of financial and project modeling and cost analysis techniques.
