JUNIOR-HIGH HISTORY INSTRUCTOR
Seeking a full-time 7-8th grade history instructor for the 2019-2020 school year at Liberty Common High School in Fort Collins, Colorado – a Poudre School District charter school dedicated to using the Core Knowledge curriculum in grades K-8. LCHS is Northern Colorado's clearest path to college delivering a college-preparatory, classical liberal-arts curriculum emphasizing the humanities including English, foreign language, history and economics while accentuating math, science and engineering in a safe, small-school environment. The school currently enrolls over 500 junior-high and high-school students.
LCHS provides excellence and fairness in education by teaching a contextual body of organized knowledge, the skills of learning, and the values of a democratic society. This is done through parental choice, partnership with teachers, and student acceptance of responsibility for his/her academic effort.
The history instructor has responsibility for program planning, curriculum development, and delivery of history instruction for junior-high students, in cooperation with the school’s existing History Department. Courses taught will be three (3) Core Knowledge 7th-grade history courses, and three (3) Core Knowledge 8th-grade history courses. Applicants should be dedicated to a strong skills and knowledge-based curriculum, and dedicated to high student achievement.
-Desire and willingness to learn about Liberty’s history and philosophy and to uphold and promote the mission and values of the school.
-BA/BS in history, U.S. government, economics, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Content knowledge is essential.
-Ability and willingness to teach the Core Knowledge Sequence.
-Demonstrated effective classroom teaching ability.
-Understanding of Liberty Common School’s history and a commitment to maintaining and promoting the school’s mission and values.
-Experience with history instruction, the Core Knowledge Curriculum and demonstrated ability in teaching this curriculum.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multiple teams.
-MS/MA in history, U.S. government, economics or related discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
-Experience or background in international relations and diplomacy, defense, foreign language, economics.
