Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school. Students learn core content in English and language immersion in their choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin, or Russian (depending on the school). GVA is truly a "global village." United by a common core, students are challenged to become world class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives, through internationally benchmarked curriculum spanning each language village.

Summary:

The general purpose of the ESL Teacher is to teach English to students who speak foreign languages in pronunciation, reading and writing in English and how to comprehend spoken English.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan with grade-level state content standards to determine unit plan goals and success criteria.
Use WIDA Standards to develop language objectives aligned with unit goals.
Create meaningful lessons focused on content area knowledge and skills as a context for language development.
Plan developmentally appropriate lessons based on different genres.
Ability to teach core subjects.
Develop and differentiate instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
Use data analysis to monitor student achievement.
Collaborate with other teachers including Immersion teachers to insure instruction is always meeting the needs of all learners.
Demonstrate sound professional teaching and classroom management skills to facilitate learning.
Use oral and written language skills accurately and effectively.
Maintain accurate records of student academic and behavioral progress, attendance, test scores and personal information.
Carry out formal and informal assessments of student achievement.
Integrate the assessments to design appropriate lesson planning and effective teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles.
Support the schools mission and curriculum.
Other duties as assigned by Principal.
Education:

Must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
PLACE or PRAXIS Certification in subject area.
Must be ESL Certified.
Experience:

One year of working with students in a school setting is strongly preferred.
