Under the supervision of a classroom teacher, this position is responsible for monitoring and/or presenting reinforcing skills with small groups of students or one-on-one; helping maintain and update student records; and monitoring and recording student's academic and behavioral progress. May assist classroom teachers by helping to plan and present lessons, prepare instructional materials, monitor students in various non-classroom settings and/or assist in the administration of tests. Individuals in this position may be assigned to one or more classrooms. IA must be fluent in the classroom language that they are assigned to.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate and/or monitor small group and one-on-one instruction of students in order to present, guide and/or reinforce skills, concepts, and strategies.
Employ a variety of instructional and motivational techniques to encourage student learning and achievement.
Maintain and update records of student progress, attendance, test scores, and/or personal information.
Input date and information into the computer system.
Assist in student testing preparation and actual testing.
Monitor students' academic and behavioral progress and record appropriately.
May plan and present lessons to promote and supplement skills, concepts, and strategies introduced in the classroom.
May prepare instructional materials for use in class or "pull-out" small groups. Duties may include word processing.
May secure supplies, materials, and equipment and maintain order.
Help with class bulletin boards and student displays.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent or Associates degree, and experience working with children in an educational setting.
Bachelor's degree preferred, with an interest in becoming a teacher and taking the Praxis or Place exam.
English language skills required.
Oral and written fluency.
Other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Oral communications and interpersonal communications.
English language skills and English writing and decision making skills needed.
Ability to work with children of all abilities.
Ability to gain knowledge of basic office equipment.
Operating knowledge of copy machine and laminator required within two months after hire.
Operating knowledge of personal computers preferred.
Oral and written fluency in a second language may be preferred or required depending on the building assignment.
