Voices College-Bound Language Academies is a public charter school network with a mission to prepare all students for the challenges of higher education through the context of an academically rigorous dual-language program. Every student, regardless of home language, graduates bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish. As Voices expands its footprint to serve 3000 students by 2026, many of whom are traditionally underserved, Voices seeks a results-oriented Director of Development who shares a commitment to our mission and believes joyful learning and world-class academic preparation are not mutually exclusive.

Role Summary

Voices Academies’ Director of Development will play a critical role in ensuring the healthy growth and continued strength of Voices schools by raising the philanthropic resources it needs now and in the future. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Development will apply proven fundraising practices and develop innovative strategies to attract interest and build strong relationships with a diverse funder base.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the non-profit sector with a deep understanding of fundraising best practices and a proven track record of securing gifts from foundations and individual donors. This person will oversee the Development and Communications Associate.

Key Responsibilities

Vision Setting and Strategic Planning

Develop a strategic annual fundraising plan and drive results to raise $1.8M in annual philanthropic dollars from a diverse set of donors
Develop and track ambitious but achievable benchmarks and performance measures relating to revenue, donor quantity, and retention to track progress against goals
Identify new strategies and revenue streams based on results, interest in the funding community, and other criteria
Effectively communicate Voices mission and story to key audiences, e.g. foundations and individuals, to raise awareness and deepen Voices’ impact
Work with senior leadership team to establish goals, strategies and annual/quarterly metrics towards fundraising goals
Work alongside the CEO and the Board of Directors to set and meet Voices’ fundraising goals
Provide oversight and guidance to the Development and Communications Associate, ensuring she is working effectively towards outlined goals and growing in her role.
Regularly evaluate internal systems, policies and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
Donor Relations and Systems

Engage potential local and national donors, while building and cultivating existing Voices donors and connectors
Manage relationships with a growing network of investors in collaboration with the leadership team
Oversee the submission of successful grant proposals and reporting, with support from the Development Associate
Support on capital campaign projects, ensuring that we’re meeting our goals and timelines, and communicating regularly with funders
Coordinate stewardship activities, including but not limited to, face-to-face solicitations, internal/external meetings, fundraising events, and school tours
Ensure high-quality development marketing and communication materials, including proposals, correspondence, reports, program information, and social media
Ensure accuracy and integrity of prospect and donor databases
Understand compliance with all relevant regulations and ensure adherence to ethical principles and standards for fundraising
Voices Academies Director of Development candidates will have the following:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum 5 years leading development efforts for a non profit organization, or related
experience allowing one to quickly connect with local and regional funders and stakeholders

Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of Voices Academies with a deep commitment to improving the lives of students from low-income communities
Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
Outstanding organizational skills and experience with process-building, planning, and execution leading to dependability and follow through
Excellent interpersonal skills and experience and enthusiasm for interacting with a broad range of stakeholders
Ability to work well independently and within a team environment; working efficiently, and exercising excellent judgment in making decisions.
Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast paced environment
Experience managing and coaching others to achieve ambitious goals
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of and experience with charter school fundraising
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Google Drive, and Salesforce
Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency

Working Conditions:

Regular requirement to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch
Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Occasional evening and or weekend work
Occasional travel
Willingness to be trained as needed
Prior to Employment: Once an offer has been extended, a candidate must meet the following criteria to receive a final contract:

First Aid/CPR Certification
Clear Criminal Background Check
Valid TB Clearance
Key Compensation:
Annual salary, $85,000 - $120,000, depending on experience

Reports directly to CEO
Permanent Salaried, Exempt Position
