JOB TITLE: Bilingual ESL Director
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer

Directs the charter school’s program for Bilingual and ESL students. Collaborates with charter school staff, parents, and outside personnel to provide educational opportunities for Bilingual ESL students.
General qualifications of a Bilingual/ESL teacher as prescribed by the Texas Education Agency
Master's degree from an accredited college or university
At minimum three (3) years successful teaching experience
Experience in an administrative role preferred
Must speak and write fluently in Spanish and English
Ability to organize and direct district-wide ESL program
Ability to interpret data
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of bilingual students
Ability to communicate effectively with bilingual parents and students
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Acts in a consolatory and advisory capacity to coordinators, directors, administrators, teachers, and staff in his/her subject areas or areas.
Works with the campus administrators, teachers, coordinators, campus directors, assistant campus directors, and bilingual ESL teachers in the development of all programs serving bilingual and ESL students.
Serves in an advisory capacity on all curriculum development committees.
Responsible for the completion of all local, state and federal evaluation reports on bilingual and ESL students.
Recommends supplementary textbooks which are not on the state textbook list.
Recommends the selection of all supplementary materials.
Is familiar with a variety of available teaching materials and instructional methods.
Assists in the coordination of the bilingual and ESL instructional programs throughout the district.
Assists program staff to analyze test data to improve the instructional program.
Assists in the planning, implementing and conducting of all bilingual and ESL in-service training programs.
Assists the appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.
Assists the appropriate staff in evaluating and selecting textbooks and other instructional materials to meet the limited English proficient student learning needs.
Assists the Campus Administrator to effectively communicate district policy and guidelines to area C.E.O., administrators, teachers and staff.
Assists appropriate staff to ensure a high degree of uniformity among elementary and secondary schools in curricular areas.
Assists appropriate staff to ensure improvement of the instructional program through observation, visitation, demonstration, and staff training.
Assists in the writing, editing, and revising of curriculum materials to support the instructional program.
Assists and supports the development and implementation of innovative instructional programs to achieve identified needs of the district’s Limited English Proficient (LEP) population.
Assists in the training for teachers and administrators in improving instructional techniques and using materials and equipment.
Assists staff in the planning, implementing and conducting of all bilingual and ESL support teams.
Assists the appropriate staff that monitors and assesses campus compliance with all Schoolwide Plan and Local Education Agency Plan.
Communicates effectively with campus level staff, the community and parents and/or students when appropriate.
Recognizes efforts and achievements of the administrative staff, teachers, and students.
Works harmoniously with all administrative and teaching personnel.
Demonstrates high expectations of students and staff.
Works collaboratively with staff and others in developing Bob Hope School’s district mission, district goals, and articulating a vision for the district’s bilingual and ESL programs.
Assists in the monitoring of various instructional program activities.
Assists with providing orientation of new teachers during in-services and throughout the year.
Assists in communicating the district curriculum, instructional practices, district accomplishments, goals and new ideas to parents and the community.
Assists in encouraging two-way communication between the district and the community.
Assists in encouraging and promoting parental and community involvement in the educational process.
Projects a positive image to the community.
Utilizes information provided through formal and informal assessment data and a professional growth plan to improve professional skills and knowledge.
Participates in appropriate conferences and staff development sessions for improved job performance.
Actively seeks and utilizes evaluative feedback from appropriate administrative staff, subordinates, and immediate supervisor regarding job performance.
Participates in professional organizations and disseminates ideas and information to appropriate staff.
Provides leadership in identifying trends and opportunities in the profession, as well as solving problems facing the profession.
Strives to improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional organizations.
Maintains active involvement in local, state and national professional organizations.
Conducts oneself in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Computer with appropriate software, printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine, overhead projector, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.

ABOUT BOB HOPE SCHOOL
Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education. Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus. Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur and Beaumont, Texas. The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
