Location: Central Office - Denver, CO 

Salary: $50,000-$60,000 based on years of experience

Status: Full time, exempt, in-person position

THE CHALLENGE 

To leverage your exceptional communications and marketing skills to support STRIVE Prep marketing and communications to external stakeholders.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE 

STRIVE Prep is a Denver-based community of K-12 charter public schools, that challenges every student to discover and develop the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in college and beyond. The Communications Specialist position reports to and works closely with the Director of Communications to ensure communications and marketing efforts are strategic and effective while achieving STRIVE Prep’s brand and voice in all public communications. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for supporting external communications efforts related to student recruitment and enrollment, advocacy and family engagement, and graduation and Senior Signing Day events. They will also support the central office with English to Spanish translations. 

This position is part of the larger External Affairs team and will collaborate with others in the organization to achieve brand consistency, coordination of messages, and the highest standards for external communications.  STRIVE Prep is at an exciting time of transformation, where we are redefining our brand promise and evolving our internal culture to better align with our core beliefs of achievement, perseverance, and justice.

You enjoy using a variety of tools and platforms to communicate: Whether it’s social media, emails, or in-person materials, you are able to create content that is meaningful and impactful. 
You are adaptable and self starter: Able to manage competing priorities and change direction quickly if needed. Able to work on location for different projects, as needed. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

External Communications Support

Support the Student Recruitment and Enrollment team with all communications and messaging. This includes, but is not limited to, messaging related to:  the creation, production, and distribution of printed publications such as printed collateral, informational one-sheets, materials, flyers, family packets and registration materials, special program materials, special event materials, direct mail campaigns, and advertising campaigns.
Support the Advocacy and Family Engagement team with all communications and messaging. This includes, but is not limited to, messaging related to: emails; social media; in-person and online events; fliers and other printed materials; direct mailings; digital communication needs and more. 
Support the central office, and work with the network’s appointed Spanish copy editor, with bilingual communications and written translations. This does not include in-person interpretation support, but that may be requested from time-to-time as assigned by the Director of Communications. 
Support the College Access team with alumni and family communications. This includes, but is not limited to: emails; social media; in-person and online events; fliers and other printed materials; direct mailings; digital communication needs and more. 
Support the Senior Signing Day and Graduation team with communications and messaging needs. This includes, but is not limited to, messaging related to: emails; social media; in-person and online events; fliers and other printed materials; direct mailings; digital communication needs and more. 
Work with the Manager of Digital Marketing and Content to support in the making of digital content such as photos, videos, social media, and graphics to create compelling, mixed-media stories. 
Works closely with the Director of Communications to ensure communications and marketing efforts are strategic and effective while achieving STRIVE Prep’s brand and voice in all public communications. 

Social Media & Website Support

Support and coordinate the creation of fresh content for striveprep.org
Work with Manager of Digital Marketing and Content and school leaders to develop "good news" stories to share on striveprep.org, in newsletters, and on social media channels
Work with Manager of Digital Marketing and Content and school leaders to keep school web pages up to date with relevant and useful information for families
Provide network-wide e-communications support as assigned 

Technical Skills

Comfort and experience using various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Vimeo. 
Expertise with online platforms: content management systems for web, e-newsletter services, and social media 

Additional Duties

Demonstrate strong writing skills which are adaptable across all communication platforms. 
Execute thoughtful schedules and timelines as part of the editorial and event planning process
Collaborate with schools to develop STRIVE brand and visual signage to elevate the look and feel of campuses. 
Identify relevant and trending topics to stay ahead of the curve
Stay informed on news, trends, and updates in education locally and nationally

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor degree
3+ years of professional experience in a related field 
Bilingual in English and Spanish, including fluency in speaking, reading, writing and  translating English to Spanish 
Adobe Creative Suite proficiency 
Passion for social justice and commitment to growing in anti-racist and anti-oppressive work personally and professionally 
Demonstrated success with authentically serving historically marginalized communities 
Attends occasional evening and weekend meetings 
Access to reliable transportation daily for frequent travel throughout Denver 
Ability to lift and transport event supplies as needed 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations/marketing, digital media, video production or related field
AP Style or similar writing standard mastery
Familiar with Google Suite technologies 

INTERVIEW EXPECTATIONS
