Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school. Students learn core content through language immersion in their choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin, or Russian (depending on the school). GVA is truly a "global village." Our immersion teachers come from all over the world, each bringing their unique culture and language into the classroom. United by a common core, students are challenged to become world class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives, through an internationally benchmarked curriculum spanning each language village.
The World Languages Specialist provides key leadership and support to teachers, principals and central office staff as it pertains to the dual language programs and English Language Learner program. The Specialist works with the Director of Teaching Learning to coordinate assessments and language testing for target language and ELL program. The Specialist will coordinate culturally appropriate services and activities for target language and ELL teachers, students, and their parents. The Specialist position is not supervisory in nature; however, the Specialist is responsible for actively coaching and supporting teachers in their area of expertise; organizing, planning, and facilitating program-level professional learning.

You Have:

Demonstrated evidence that you are a joyous and passionate educator.

Provided coaching and support to classroom teachers. May include classroom modeling of instructional strategies.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with teachers, principals, and directors regarding important issues relative to program responsibility.

Experience teaching and/or coaching in a dual language immersion model

Proven ability to contribute to a high performing leadership team, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills

Mandarin, Spanish, or French cultural and language experience

Demonstrated understanding of the alignment of ACTFL standards and Colorado Academic standards, and how they apply to the 5 C's of foreign language instruction.

As part of the team you will:

Be an important contributing member of the Teaching Learning Department

Engage in program coordination with approximately 70% of your time spent in the 3 Global Village Academy schools observing programs, supporting and coaching teachers; 30% will be spent analyzing data, researching best practices and trends and developing professional learning opportunities.

Work hand in hand with the Executive Director, Director of Teaching Learning and the GVAC team to implement the GVAC mission and vision

Lead robust Professional Learning for target language teachers at our GVA schools

Assesses relevant student achievement data and recommends appropriate courses of action including curricular changes based on student achievement data.

Allocate materials and resources

Participate in the School Improvement Plan (UIP) process

Help with the literacy and math programs in the target languages

Develop, deliver, and assess program-based professional learning for teachers and principals. Identification of best practices is an important aspect of this professional learning responsibility.

Support target language teachers new to GVA schools with integration from their home country.

Education and/or Experience:

A valid teaching license and/or administrative license

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education or the appropriate content area--Master's degree preferred

A minimum of five years' teaching/coaching experience in a dual language immersion setting

Other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Mandarin, Spanish, and/or French cultural and language experience is highly preferred.

Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.

Strong ability to plan and manage projects.

Strong ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Knowledge in operating standard office technology using pertinent software applications.
