Shaelyn is the senior manager of media relations for the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. In her role, Shaelyn is responsible for generating positive media stories and pushing back on all narratives with misleading information about the charter school movement. Shaelyn serves as a spokesperson for the organization and works with the president and CEO, Nina Rees, to ensure the National Alliance and its executive team are prepared to engage with media at all events and speaking engagements. Shaelyn also provides any rapid response efforts necessitated to support the National Alliance's communication strategy.
Before working at the National Alliance, Shaelyn worked as an account executive at the Pinkston Group, a strategic communications firm in Alexandria, VA. While at the Pinkston Group Shaelyn created and executed public relations campaigns, managed social media accounts, and developed messaging for her clients. Shaelyn honed her media relations skills at the Pinkston Group earning media coverage in new and traditional outlets, building relationships with reporters, and serving as a client spokesperson.
Prior to joining the Pinkston Group, Shaelyn worked at Goldman Sachs as an analyst for three years. She served on the Dallas office internal communications team, supporting both the Dallas regional office and the realty management division globally. While at Goldman Sachs Shaelyn’s team also doubled as the chief of staff team for the Dallas office. In her role Shaelyn managed internal communication, all Dallas branding and marketing initiatives, organized major events, supported recruiting efforts, and served as a philanthropic officer in order to build partnerships with more than thirty local nonprofits on behalf of the firm.
Shaelyn graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in Communications and a minor in Business. Outside of work, Shaelyn teaches an English as a Second Language (ESL) class at Casa Chirilagua, a nonprofit serving the Hispanic community in Alexandria. Shaelyn actively serves at her church, Passion City D.C. Originally from Texas, Shaelyn loves spending time with family and friends, hiking, traveling, working with kids, and of course, making trips back to the Lonestar state!
What is one thing on your bucket list? I want to visit all seven natural wonders of the world.
What do you love about your job? I absolutely love kids and I was born to be a child advocate. I cannot believe I now get to be one for a living!
What was the last really great book you read? The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. If you have not read it, it is incredible.
