Joel Klein Speaks on Charter Proliferation

The Washington Post posed this question recently to NYC Schools Chancellor Joel Klein: Enrollment in [regular] D.C. public schools is dropping quickly as charter schools proliferate. Is that a positive trend? Klein is in position to know. Since his appointment by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2002, his impact has stretched far beyond NYC to include, among many things, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty's plans to shake up the education status quo.

Klein, who'll be keynoting at the National Charter Schools Conference in D.C. on June 23rd, offers a candid assessment of the politics and progress being made by charter schools.
