According to U.S. News and World Report Survey
(Washington D.C. 12/5/08) – Eighteen public charter schools are among the country’s top 100 high schools, despite constituting 5% of schools nationwide, according to a comprehensive survey released today by U.S. News and World Reports, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools announced today.
The rankings will appear in editions of U.S. News and World Reports published this coming Monday, December 8. It is available on-line at

Begun as an innovative educational reform less than 20 years ago, public charter schools have grown to enroll 1.4 million students in 40 states and the District of Columbia, yet constitute only 5% of all public high school enrollment.
“Charter schools are given the freedom to innovate and held accountable for results, and the over-representation of charter schools on this list of the 100 top high schools in America clearly shows that these principles are producing results and making a difference in students’ lives,” said National Alliance for Public Charter Schools President and CEO Nelson Smith. We congratulate them all for this outstanding recognition.”
