Three months into the school year, students at the new Locke High School, now under charter school operator Green Dot’s management, report that teachers care more for them this year than before. NY: Senior teachers at New York City public schools can no longer transfer to any school they wish. This New York Times editorial describes how the city and the teachers unions have abandoned that old rule and agreed that schools who choose to hire senior teachers will receive a small bonus and a subsidy to help with salaries that may be as much as $100,000.

TN: Only three charter schools have been approved in Nashville since the state's charter law was adopted in 2002. James Sarrio of the Tennessean writes here that Ismail Fidan is now applying a third time for a charter to open the Nashville Academy of Science and Technology.

FL: One Dade City school is showing its commitment to putting students first by reinvesting $25,000 in bonus money back into the school. Megan Hussey of the Tampa Bay Tribune reports that many schools who receive a bonus from the Teacher Recognition Fund use it to pay teacher bonuses, but Academy at the Farm will be putting the money toward school supplies here.
