A Truly Uplifting Story

Yesterday, The New York Times highlighted the International Community School, a public charter school, in Decatur, Georgia. The school specializes in teaching young refugees from around the world.

Another Victory for Taxpayers....

Late in the Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant was rolling up one victory after another but word got out that his march was fueled by brandy. A fretful aide reported this to the President, and Lincoln famously remarked “Find out what brand he drinks and send a case to my other generals.”

Two Losses in the Family

In the last couple of weeks the charter movement lost two bright stars:

John D. Skief, a longtime Philadelphia educator and social justice advocate, died at 59. Founder of the Harambee Institute of Science and Technology, one of that city’s first charters, he was also the founding President of the Pennsylvania Alliance of Charter Schools.
