The Vice President of Development is responsible for sustaining and expanding individual and institutional philanthropic support for Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, raising $5M annually in private revenue for the organization. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic, growth-oriented organization and department.


Lead the development and implementation of fundraising plan to expand support and diversify strategies to identify, engage, educate and cultivate existing and prospective donors.
Create a case for support and from that develop compelling campaigns and opportunities for philanthropic support and persuasive proposals.
Work with the Director of Annual Fund and Donor Engagement to increase participation in the annual fund. Align annual giving efforts with other development activities to assist in identifying and cultivating prospects for annual leadership gifts and major gifts.
Provide strategic direction and support in the creation of engaging volunteer opportunities, as well as cultivation and fundraising events for the organization.
Manage personal portfolio of major donors.
Support the Chief Development & Communications Officer and CEO and Board Members in the relationship management and solicitation of top organizational prospects and donors.
Review and edit funding letters of inquiry, grant proposals and reports. Assist in drafting copy when needed.
Coordinate with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications in the development of donor communications that reflects the overall Alliance brand and core messages.
Conduct regular reporting and analysis of development efforts to inform current and future fund development strategies and programming.
Manage team of three development staff, including the Director of Annual Fund and Donor Engagement, Director of Institutional Donors and Development Coordinator, providing direction and mentorship, priority-setting and performance evaluations.
Maintain current knowledge of important developments within the regional and national funding environments as they relate to Alliance’s mission and programs.
Analyze development activities and benchmark with peer institutions to ensure Alliance is on track and employing best practices.
Represent the Alliance at external meetings and events.


Education and Experience:


Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred.


6-8 years of experience in non-profit development with progressive management and leadership experience.
Proven track-record leading successful teams and campaigns to achieve fundraising goals and grow the donor base.
Track record of securing six and seven figure contributions.
Ability to work with the most senior levels of an organization and the ability to effectively strategize and engage various groups and constituents.
Experience in nurturing and motivating volunteers, particularly board members, and an appreciation for their role in building an effective fundraising network.
Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to communicate Alliance mission and activities with clarity and in a compelling manner to diverse audiences.
Proven ability in strategic planning, critical thinking, problem solving, and change management.
Track record of building new programming, operations and procedures to sustain the work.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Ability to lead and work well with diverse Alliance stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; Raisers Edge, Salesforce or comparable constituent/donor management system; social media platforms; preferred experience with online marketing and giving platforms.
