The Strategic Planning Specialist serves as PCSB’s analysis and planning leader on issues related to charter school supply and demand, expansion, facilities, and collaborative planning. The Strategic Planning Specialist will manage and execute a wide range of activities in support of strategic planning around the growth, location, and demand for DC public charter schools. Additionally the Strategic Planning Specialist will support and manage special projects as they arise. Examples of previous special projects include the Neighborhood Preference Taskforce, Common Core Conference for school leaders, and the city-wide common lottery. The Strategic Planning Specialist reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works with staff across the organization and external partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities of the Strategic Planning Specialist include but are not limited to:

• Serve as point-person and liaison to DC Public Schools, Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, Office of Planning and other partners on collaborative planning. Maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders and organizations to support strategic planning and special projects. Serve on or manage relevant task forces.
• Serve as project manager for high-priority, cross-functional, and cross-organizational projects. Prepares short- and long-range plans and projects as it relates to mission critical projects such as facilities, student preferences, and cross-sector collaboration. Creates timelines, milestones and deliverables and follows up on the same.
• Develops relevant policy briefs that inform issues that are critical to the success of important initiatives of PCSB.
• Conduct analyses (quantitative and qualitative) to evaluate areas of need related to school quality and access to programming aligned to community need.
• Track and analyze data from replicating schools, new and closing schools, and schools increasing or decreasing enrollment by neighborhood and grades span.
• Create maps and other visuals to show supply and demand of student population, student travel patterns, neighborhoods lacking a high performing school, and supply/demand into the next 5- and 10- years by geographic area and grade.
• Manage databases and advocacy work on facilities and school expansion.
• Act as a thought partner to staff and leadership requesting analytical support; frame and conduct analysis to respond to key strategic needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Strong candidates will have the following qualifications, skills and experiences:
• Superior creative problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills; ability to synthesize data and information from multiple sources, develop insights and recommendations and convey complex information through the use of supporting tables, graphs and other visual representations.
• Demonstrated experience planning and managing multiple complex projects; ability to structure ambiguous problems, initiate and drive projects with minimal direction, manage up and across, internally and externally, to reach goals.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex concepts in writing or verbally for all levels with a broad & diverse audience.
• The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders and across organizations.
• Deep passion for educational equity and belief in PCSB’s mission and vision.
• Experience in the public sector or urban public school districts or charter schools strongly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency of MS Excel and PowerPoint required; experience with statistical analysis and software preferred (SAS, SPSS, or R.)
• 2+ years strategy and consulting experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MPA, or related degree preferred.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with prior experience in a similar role with potential for an annual performance-based bonus.
