Brooklyn Prospect Charter School is seeking a Resident Teacher to join the Downtown Elementary Team!

This is an ideal position for an emerging educator who is excited about the charter movement and working with a diverse population of students.

The Brooklyn Prospect Elementary Resident Program is a 2 year program designed to support developing teachers. We pair residents with experienced educators in a co-teaching model that is designed to give emerging teachers the full experience of leading a classroom. Resident teachers are assigned a mentor teacher and supported as they embrace all the responsibilities that come with leading a classroom.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Resident Program Leader, the Resident Teacher will help keep the academic and personal success of our students as a core focus, while striving to grow professionally and support a positive school community.

As a Resident Teacher, you are entrusted to:

Help develop and execute exciting curriculum in a co-taught classroom
Have a gradual release of responsibilities, culminating in equal distribution of duties.
Enjoy teaching duties divided equally with lead teacher responsible for long-term planning.
Be mentored by the Resident Teacher Program Leader. This includes formal observations, professional development and regular resident specific meetings.
Have the ability to apply for a lead after year 1 and/or to stay on at year 2 salary indefinitely.
Be able to count resident years towards lead teacher salary step on BPCS salary scale.
Be immersed in ample and diverse professional development opportunities

About You:

A minimum of a Master’s degree
NY State Teaching Certification in Special Education
Experience with the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and/or Diploma Program (DP) is a plus.
A collaborative spirit and belief in the charter movement

About the Benefits:

Salary for Year 1: $43,000; Salary for Year 2: $47,200
