POSITION SUMMARY:
Epic Charter School is seeking 4 experienced, dynamic, and passionate educators who will lead outdoor education/physical education classes during the school day and then lead after school programs. Outdoor education/PE instruction takes places at the end of the school day; each OE/PE teacher will guide a group of 20-40 students during that time. This is a part-time position; the entire PE/after-school program runs from 2:00-6:00pm daily. We are seeking teachers who can supervise children during supervised play as well as lead classes. Ideally, we are seeking individuals who can teach
● Yoga
● Movement/dance
● Gymnastics
● Circus arts
● Team sports (basketball, baseball, soccer, football, etc.)
● Martial arts (jiu jitsu, muay thai, capoeira)
● Outdoor education
● Cooking
● Gardening
● Health

ABOUT EPIC MIDDLE SCHOOL
Epic is a school unlike any other. At Epic, students will learn to see themselves as heroes in their own Epic journey. Epic is a science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) school where students will:
● learn at least in part through online delivery of content and instruction providing teachers with time to personalize learning one-on-one or in small groups
● have some element of control over their time, place, path and pace of learning
● level up instead of receive grades
● progress through school based on mastery of the content with comprehensive adult support and encouragement
● conceptualize their own designs and build them in a state of the art “Makerspace” equipped with tools from oscilloscopes to sewing machines, table saws to 3D printers
● work collaboratively with 100 of their close friends in school-based quests where students are transported back in time to the American revolution or forced to survive a zombie apocalypse

• Play a Leadership Role in the Development of the School Physical Activity Program
o Being an active member of the school wellness committee
o Serving as a resource person for classroom teachers
o Organizing schoolwide physical activity experiences
• implement the SEL curriculum with students
• Monitoring student progress data
• Communications with families and teachers
• Assure the safety and well-being of assigned students
• Maintain regular communication with students and parents
• Review goals and performance with students on a weekly basis
• Consistently maintain work habits, appearance and behavior that serve as a model for students
• Other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Content expertise in Physical or Outdoor Education for youth.
• At least two years of experience teaching Physical or Outdoor Education to youth, ages 11-14.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
• Able to build immediate and loving rapport with children of all ages and from diverse backgrounds; some understanding of child growth and development.
• Passion for teaching and working with students from urban communities, with specific knowledge and understanding of the needs of students from different experiences, languages and backgrounds.
• Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of commitment; ability to work as part of a team.
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively.
• Able to work in a creative and demanding learning environment, including the ability to problem-solve and manage ambiguity and adversity.
• Sense of humor, high ethical professional standards, equity perspective.
• Able to pass state and federal background checks.
• Clear TB and criminal background check upon hire.
COMPENSATION: This is a contracted position at an hourly rate of $20.00 and does not include a benefits package.
