Position Summary
East Harlem Tutorial Program believes that high-quality after-school and summer programs can ensure college readiness, access, and success for students in the East Harlem community. Scholars receive classroom-based instruction in math and ELA, plus consistent homework help. They also gain access to a wide range of electives, including robotics and creative writing, that spark new interests and build self-confidence. As EHTP continues to expand the reach of its educational programming to serve more students in the East Harlem community, the Managing Director, Out of School Time (OST) Programs will manage the growing after-school and summer programs serving students in Kindergarten through college. The Managing Director will ensure the continued impact and improvement of EHTP’s elementary and middle school out-of-school time programs, while overseeing the team leading and expanding the College Scholars program. The Managing Director, OST Programs will work closely with the Executive Director, other Managing Directors, and the EHTP Board to ensure that EHTP’s guiding principles and beliefs are at the core of every out-of-school time program, staff and student interaction, and family engagement activity.

Position Outcomes
A successful Managing Director will achieve the following outcomes:
• Over the next three years, lead the OST staff through continued expansion of elementary school, middle school, College Scholars, and high school programming, ensuring that programmatic data, community feedback, and staff reflection inform continued programmatic growth and improvement
• Develop authentic and supportive relationships with staff, families, other Managing Directors, and school leaders, integrating the work of the OST Programs seamlessly with the work of the East Harlem Scholars Academies, the mission of the East Harlem Teaching Residency, and the needs of the community
• Take an active role in EHTP’s anti-racism work, including leading programmatic assessments to evaluate how or whether policies and strategies are inadvertently misaligned with EHTP’s racial equity goals and principles

Key Responsibilities
To achieve the above outcomes, the Managing Director, Out of School Time Programs will:

Programmatic Improvement and Expansion
• Regularly meet with the data team and OST program staff, leading analysis of student performance, actively monitoring progress through collection of both formal and informal data and making appropriate programmatic changes
• Leverage the lessons learned from East Harlem Scholars Academies and the East Harlem Tutorial Program and work with program staff to design the operational and academic infrastructure necessary to expand existing middle and high school programs substantially in the coming years
• Keep up-to-date with state educational standards and any appropriate policy and academic trends, periodically reviewing standards and policies to ensure continued compliance and success

Staff Management
• Manage a team of program managers, K-12 teachers (including East Harlem Teaching Residents), College Success staff, social workers, and volunteers to effectively provide appropriate academic and social emotional learning supports for OST scholars after school and during the summer
• Continue to develop a collaborative learning community among the network’s principals, OST Program Managers, and OST teachers
• Hire, assign, and manage instructional staff at the middle and high school level and work closely with the East Harlem Teaching Residency staff to appropriately train and manage the Teaching Residents

Positive Program Culture
• Work closely with EHTP’s Managing Directors and principals to advance EHTP’s anti-racism work and build these values into existing and new programs
• Support EHTP OST program managers to build rigorous and nurturing out-of-school time programs that maintain high expectations for students
• Build relationships with families through frequent communication about programmatic impact and EHTP’s work in the community

External Relationships and Board Management
• Represent the organization externally with funders, Board members, education stakeholders, and community leaders and communicate the needs and achievements of the EHTP OST Programs to the same stakeholders
• Develop productive relationships with funders and other stakeholders and make the case for EHTP’s OST Programs’ impact and continued expansion
• Regularly report on EHTP’s OST Programs’ short-term and long-term strategic goals and progress towards goals to Board members

Qualifications
• Several years of impactful teaching experience, ideally in a community similar to East Harlem, with a passion for and record of driving student achievement
• Experience in a leadership role at a school or similar education environment, with demonstrated staff management experience and success managing adults
• A willingness to be the public face of an organization, thriving in an externally-facing role with responsibilities for Board management and funder relationships
• Operational leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to do both high-level strategic work as well as tactical and practical project implementation
• Demonstrated ability to utilize effective interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including families, Board members, network leadership, principals, and community members
• A deep belief that all students can thrive in a challenging, high-quality, nurturing, and supportive learning environment
• Proven ability and desire to work in a growing, entrepreneurial, and collaborative environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong work ethic
• Belief in East Harlem Tutorial Program’s mission, core values, guiding principles, racial equity statement, and educational model
• Bachelor’s degree required; other advanced degree in education strongly preferred
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
