The Academies of Math & Science are seeking a temporary maintenance person/handyman for our

campus in central Tucson, Arizona. We are a group of highly successful college prep charter schools

We want dynamic, motivated, and creative problem-solving maintenance team members. Below is a list

of requirements and responsibilities. This position can be part-time or full time based on competence

and experience. This temporary position can be extended into a long term position.


• Perform a variety of general maintenance and custodial duties in and around school

buildings including plumbing, painting, landscaping, and repairs.

• Maintain school equipment including cafeteria, restrooms, and other facilities in a

functional condition; recommend and oversee replacement of equipment as needed.

• Maintain records of maintenance performed as necessary.

• Maintain a supply of and account for cleaning supplies and equipment; maintain an

adequate inventory at all times.

• Comply with chemical handling laws and safety regulations as required; maintain a safe

working environment.

• Maintain security of buildings, equipment, and tools.

• Be able to respond quickly to maintenance and plumbing emergencies.

• Transport materials between campuses.

• Answer questions and interact professionally with school administration.

• Provide sound recommendations to administration and business office on matters

involving outside contractors.

• Supply own tools, drills, saws, and plumbing-specific tools.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

• Working knowledge of heating and cooling equipment; small appliance maintenance;

plumbing and fixtures; electricity

• Bilingual in English and Spanish

• 2 or more years experience in a maintenance or similar environment


• Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and

interpersonal skills

• Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, students, families, and the general public

• Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work

with a sense of urgency

• Ability to maintain confidentiality

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times;

ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required

• Working knowledge of computer technology

• Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance

• A thorough knowledge of the use of the tools and equipment associated with general


• Possess a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card or able to obtain

• Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license

• Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check

• Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to

lift 45 lbs or as required in a normal maintenance environment.

• Required Activities: Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; handling; carrying;

lifting; and climbing ladders.
