Position Overview
We believe that strong school leaders are integral to the success of our scholars. As we continue to expand the reach of our educational programming to more students within the East Harlem community, we seek a Leadership Resident to support staff and student learning at our current public charter school, while building the foundation for our ongoing growth. The Leadership Resident will receive tailored coaching from the Founding Principal, Managing Director of East Harlem Scholars Academies and will put their skills into action on a daily basis as a member of the school’s Leadership Team. The Leadership Resident will share responsibility for the success of the school while charting their unique path towards leading a Scholars Academies school.

Responsibilities of the Leadership Resident include, but are not limited to:

Leadership Development
Gain on-the-ground experience through shadowing the Founding Principal, Managing Director of Scholars Academies and exercising leadership in key school matters over the course of your residency experience
Participate in Leadership Development seminars offered by Scholars Academies and attend external conferences to enhance current practices and fine-tune leadership skills
Collaborate with the Founding Principal, Managing Director to plan vision for leading an East Harlem Scholars Academies school
Instructional Leadership and School Administration
Coach and develop a portfolio of teachers by providing regular, on-going instructional feedback
Partner with the Founding Principal, Managing Director of East Harlem Scholars Academies to provide high-quality professional development based on identified school and teacher needs
Actively monitor the progress of student and staff growth through collection of formal and informal data; analyze data in collaboration with the Leadership Team to inform strategic and instructional planning
Ensure the use of effective, research-based teaching methodologies and practices across classrooms
Contribute to building a positive school culture that is focused on meeting school- wide goals
Provide regular logistic and administrative support (i.e., attending family engagement events, reviewing report cards

School Readiness Planning
Develop mutually supportive relationships with the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders to drive the development of the school
Partner with Scholars Academies Leadership Team and Talent & Recruitment staff to recruit and select a team of talented educators
Partner with staff across EHTP to recruit students that reflects the diversity of the East Harlem community
Develop both long-term and short-term strategic plans to support school development

Skills and Experiences:
A passion for and record of driving student achievement and overall success in traditionally under-resourced communities
High standards for student achievement and behavior
Strong instructional and classroom management expertise with proven results
Experience managing adults and/or coaching teachers
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and a proven record of creating and fostering excellent relationships
A high level of integrity and a strong work ethic
An open and collaborative management style characteristic of a team player
Desire to and proven ability to work in an entrepreneurial environment
Belief in the East Harlem Tutorial Program’s mission, education model and core values

Education Background and Work Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; other advanced degree preferred (Ed.M., J.D., M.B.A., or M.P.A.)
3+ years of teaching experience, with at least 2 years in a high-need student population
1+ year of experience managing adults
Prior experience in a school leadership role highly preferred
