Brooklyn LAB is looking for a Director of Finance to join the Network Team!


ABOUT BROOKLYN LAB

Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools (LAB) is a network of open enrollment, college-prep, public charter schools that prepares students with the academic foundation, digital literacy, and leadership skills necessary to excel in college and professional life as they grow as ethical leaders.

The LAB Formula:
More Time in School: Extended day, week, and school year focused on academic learning and unique enrichment activities (e.g., Robotics, Digital Media, Coding, Debate, Visual Arts).
High Dose Tutoring: Personalized, small group tutoring from trained college graduates for at least two hours each day.
Next Generation Learning: A college prep curriculum with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) -focused enrichment activities to prepare students to succeed in jobs of the future.

As a Brooklyn LAB Director of Finance you will provide leadership and direction in:


Strategic Initiatives: including network policies, strategy decisions, long-term planning, and organizational sustainability
Compliance: including revenue activities, expenditures, record keeping, reporting, auditing, and billing; proper cash management, and management of accounts receivable and payable, with timely of billings and payments; ensure proper asset management, compliance with GAAP standards, and adherence to LAB’s budget; collect public revenues;
Systems Management: including develop, implementing and managing the financial systems, financial reporting and accounting systems using accounting/financial best policies and procedures; including the provisions of personnel services, record keeping, reporting, inventory, and purchasing;
Budget Management: including overseeing the negotiation of external operational vendor relationships to support continued growth of the network; leading the annual planning and budgeting process for the network and individual school sites; coordinating with the Executive Director to prepare the school budget and financial model, including forecasts as it relates to LAB’s strategic plan
Data Management: including the collection of any data required for the preparation of reports to local, state, and federal entities, as well as other related stakeholders; preparing financial documents and budgets in conjunction with the Executive Director for all reporting including but not limited to grant proposals, board meetings, and annual reporting;
External Relations: including serving as the liaison to the Board and primarily to the Treasurer of the Board; identifying opportunities to achieve financial sustainability through creating cost efficiencies and increased productivity of public funds and philanthropy.

**Other duties, based on the needs of the school and its scholars.


ABOUT THE DESIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & MINDSET:

A BA/BS degree from an accredited institution (CPA or MBA, is preferred)
3-4 years of experience working in large or fast-paced departments, is a plus
3-4 years of successful management, is required
Experience in operational finance/accounting as well as strategic capital structure/financing decisions
Demonstrated track record of success in qualitative analyses and financial modeling
Commitment to LAB’s mission and academic objectives: that all students, regardless of background and incoming ability, can achieve at high levels
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization; ability to manage and build consensus within cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams
Experience with charter or charter-like schools, nonprofit strategy, nonprofit consulting, and/or with students in low-income urban environments is preferred, not required;
Willingness to be a team player and support auxiliary projects with the Operations team
Demonstrated enthusiasm, a “can do” attitude, and a desire to make others successful
Ability to absorb feedback, engage in self-improvement, and adjust to a dynamic and rapidly changing environment
