ROLE SUMMARY

At Alliance, we believe that all of our students, including our most vulnerable, can achieve at a high level. The Content Specialist -Middle School Mathematics will work from Alliance’s Home Office with Alliance’s network of 28 schools, with an emphasis on our ten middle schools, to provide curricular and instructional leadership in the development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of the 6-12 academic program to improve student achievement and meet student, school, and network goals. In particular, the Content Specialist will be responsible for enhancing our approach to Common Core-aligned rigorous Math instruction, ensuring that our schools provide best-in-class Math programs.

The Content Specialist will serve on the Alliance Home Office Academic Team and will report directly to the Director of Mathematics. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of exemplary Math standards, curriculum and aligned teaching practices, an unwavering commitment to data-driven instruction and experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Content and Curriculum Expertise

Serve as resident mathematics expert by holding a deep knowledge of Mathematics content, standards, curricular materials and resources, with a special focus on grades 6-8
Support development and implementation of network’s vision for Mathematics instruction
Revise and create Common Core State Standards-aligned curricular materials in response to student achievement data, including curricular maps, unit plans and assessments


Assessment and Data Analysis

Deeply analyze student achievement data (student work samples, interim assessments and AP tests) to determine how to better develop curricular materials and provide targeted, high quality teacher training
Create materials and systems to ensure leaders and teachers are effectively using data to drive instruction
Facilitate data meetings for leaders, teacher leaders and teachers that dive deeply into formative data to inform future instruction


Coaching & Professional Development

With the Math Home Office Academic Team, design and facilitate high-quality, relevant Math professional development sessions for leaders and teacher leaders that translate into immediate, measurable improvements to instruction and to student achievement
Support the development of Alliance teacher leaders to provide content-specific, targeted feedback to teachers at their school site
Conduct focused observations 4-5 times a month across Alliance schools to push content-specific instructional practices, improve implementation of curriculum, gather information on best practices and pilot new projects


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Deep knowledge of exemplary teaching, with four or more years of highly successful middle school mathematics teaching experience, preferably in high-need schools or with high-need populations, and a proven track record of raising student achievement. We will consider a candidate with a minimum of two years of teaching experience with exceptional results if there is relevant prior work experience
Deep content and pedagogical expertise in mathematics, including the Common Core State Standards Math standards and instructional shifts
Firm grasp of curricula, strong data analysis skills and an unwavering commitment to data-driven instruction
Experience designing and facilitating professional development trainings for adult learners
Proven track record of effective collaboration with colleagues and forming strong relationships with others in the workplacein order to find common goals and achieve solutions
