A Truly Uplifting Story
Yesterday, The New York Times highlighted the International Community School, a public charter school, in Decatur, Georgia. The school specializes in teaching young refugees from around the world.
Recognizing that the unique needs of refugee populations were not being met by traditional public schools, the school’s founders created a model based on Dr. Martin Luther King’s “beloved community” ideal. Bringing together numerous cultures and children from diverse (ethnically, economically, and racially) backgrounds (including American students), the school has not only survived since its inception, it has succeeded – dramatically improving the lives of its students.

One other thing – the school has made AYP the last four years.
