Nora Kern

Senior Manager, Research and Analysis

A native of the Sunshine State, Nora Kern graduated as valedictorian with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and minors in education and Italian studies from the University of Florida. (Go Gators!) She headed straight into the classroom after graduation, teaching fourth grade at a charter school in Gainesville, Florida. As a teacher, Nora came face to face with the great educational inequities her students faced based solely on their zip codes. Nora moved north after being selected for an education policy fellowship coordinated by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute and the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools to launch her policy career in Washington, D.C. Since then, she has worked on Capitol Hill for a Georgia congressman and at the Data Quality Campaign. The belief that charter schools are the most powerful tool to ensure that every family can access a high-quality public school option brought her back to the movement. When not at work, you’ll probably catch Nora traveling, taking a hike, snapping photos, or enjoying a craft beer—possibly all at the same time.
